Therapy Dog Training & Mentorship Program

Our Therapy Dog Training & Mentorship Program is designed to thoughtfully prepare both dog and handler for meaningful, confident, and ethical therapy-dog work in real-world settings. This program blends professional training, individualized support, and hands-on mentoring—grounded in the Pet Partners philosophy of safety, professionalism, and human–animal well-being.

Program Design

Professional Training Partnership

Training is led by Lynn Robinson at Bear Brook Kennel, a trusted community partner known for positive, relationship-based training.


• Free initial consultation to assess readiness and fit
• Training rooted in positive reinforcement and ethical handling
• Individualized guidance for both dog and handler

5-Week Therapy Dog Preparation Course

This structured course prepares teams for therapy-dog evaluation and service, focusing on:


• Therapy-appropriate obedience and manners
• Handler communication, confidence, and advocacy
• Navigating medical, educational, and community environments
• Stress recognition, consent, and canine well-being
• Public access skills and professionalism

Mentoring & Coaching

Following the class, teams receive guided mentoring and coaching during live visits and community settings—bridging the gap between training and service.

Evaluation Preparation

This program follows the standards and expectations of Pet Partners, ensuring teams are fully prepared for the national evaluation process.


• $275 per team (training class + evaluation prep)
• Designed to support successful completion of the Pet Partners evaluation
• Fall cohort achieved a 100% evaluation pass rate

Scholarships & Accessibility

We believe therapy-dog work should be accessible to those committed to service.


• Eligibility-based scholarships available
• Considered on a case-by-case basis
• Offered to reduce financial barriers for qualified teams
